A set of man-made caverns carved into a sandstone bluff just north of Kanab — the result of 1920s sand mining for glass-making — now one of the area's most photogenic quick stops. Reaching the cave mouths requires a short, steep scramble up slickrock, rewarded with arched windows framing the valley.
| Category | Point of Interest |
|---|---|
| Nearest town | Kanab |
| Top activities | Short scramble hike (about 0.7 miles round trip), Photography through the cave windows, Watching sunset from the cave openings |
| Best time to visit | Year-round; morning or late afternoon for softer light and cooler rock. The slickrock approach is risky when wet or icy. |
| Entrance fee | Free |
| Permits | None. Roadside parking on US-89; short but steep slickrock scramble to enter. |
Visitor tip: Park at the signed pullout on US-89 about 5-6 miles north of Kanab and follow the use trail left of the caves — the direct slickrock face is slicker than it looks, and good shoes matter more than fitness here.
